INDOOR
CLIMBING,
2026.
We've mapped 2,282 indoor climbing gyms across 84 countries and 1,701 cities. This is what the data says about where climbing lives, who climbs the most, and the chains taking over the world.
"The UK is the
densest climbing
country on earth."
London is the densest climbing city in the world.
No city we cover comes close to London's 25 indoor climbing gyms packed into one metro area — though Bristol's 10 gyms in a city of 470,000 makes it arguably the most climbing-saturated city on earth on a per-person basis. Berlin, Prague and Vienna anchor a surprisingly strong Central European cluster.
Movement is the world's biggest indoor climbing chain.
With 32 locations across the United States, Movement Climbing leads the world by location count — comfortably ahead of Central Rock Gym (17), Gravity Vault (9), London Climbing Centres (8), Urban Climb (7) and Vertical Endeavors (7). The rise of the climbing chain is the single most important industry shift of the last decade.
HOW WE BUILT THIS
Every gym in this report is in our directory. Each entry is verified by hand before going live — opening hours, address, real photos, facility flags. We accept community corrections weekly. Population figures are 2024 estimates from the World Bank and the UN. Per-capita rankings are limited to countries with at least five gyms in our dataset to avoid distortion from low coverage.
