How Our Rankings Work
We believe in transparency. Here's exactly how gyms are ranked on BoulderingList.
Community Reviews
Climbers rate gyms on 8 criteria: opening hours, cleanliness, route reset rate, size, vibe, facilities, difficulty range, and community.
The average across all approved reviews forms the largest component of a gym's score. More reviews = more influence on the ranking.
Listing Completeness
Gyms with more complete information rank higher. This includes having a description, website URL, phone number, address, map coordinates, and occupancy data.
This rewards gyms that keep their listing up to date and provide useful information to climbers.
Activity & Engagement
How active is the gym's listing? Number of reviews received, community-submitted photos, and whether the description has been enhanced all factor in.
Active listings with engaged communities naturally rise in the rankings.
Important notes:
- Rankings are re-calculated regularly as new reviews and data come in
- Premium listings do not buy higher rankings — the scoring is entirely based on the criteria above
- The best way to improve your ranking is to encourage your members to leave honest reviews
- Rankings are computed per-country and per-city, so you're compared against gyms in your area
